Your five-person marketing team does not need a $2,000-a-month enterprise platform. It needs software that costs less than lunch per person, works without an SEO hire, and never charges you for adding a seat.
We tested 8 AI SEO platforms during our June and July 2026 review cycle, and these five fit a small team best. Every price below is USD and current as of July 2026. Every score is out of 5 stars, weighted for value for money, because on a small team the budget is the strategy.
The small-team scoreboard
| # | Tool | Stars | Entry price | The one thing to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Temso AI | 4.5/5 | $89/mo | Unlimited seats plus tracking, content, and audits in one bill |
| 2 | Otterly.AI | 4/5 | $29/mo | Cheapest credible entry, but the next tier costs $189 |
| 3 | Peec AI | 4/5 | ~$90/mo (euro billing) | Unlimited seats, euro billing, engine add-ons cost extra |
| 4 | Surfer | 3.5/5 | $99/mo | Great content editor, thin AI tracking until $182/mo |
| 5 | Knowatoa | 3/5 | $59/mo | A dedicated account rep at a price that should not include one |
The seat tax is the real enemy
Small teams get punished by pricing pages, not by features.
The pattern repeats across this market: the sticker price covers one or two users, and every extra login adds a fee. That is the seat tax, and it lands hardest on companies where everyone wears three hats.
So we scored this list with per-seat math front and center:
- Temso AI: unlimited users on every plan. Six people on Starter pay $89 total, about $14.83 per head.
- Peec AI: unlimited users on every plan, the best seat deal among the pure trackers.
- Otterly.AI, Surfer, and Knowatoa: priced by plan limits (prompts, questions, content credits) rather than headline seat fees, so check the tier caps before you invite the whole team.
Bottom line: before you compare features, compare what user number seven costs. On two of these five tools, the answer is zero.
1. Temso AI: 4.5/5 stars
One Temso screen shows a small team where its brand stands across all five tracked AI engines.
Best for: teams of 2 to 10 that want one subscription to cover the whole AI SEO job.
Pricing: Starter $89/mo, Growth $199/mo (the most popular plan), Professional $499/mo, as of July 2026. Yearly billing takes 15% off. No tier caps your projects, your seats, or your recommendations.
Temso AI is the easy all-in-one pick, and for a small team that phrase does heavy lifting. It watches how your brand appears across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Copilot, reading what shows up on the actual chat screens instead of leaning on a developer API. Then it hands you the rest of the toolkit in the same tab: site audits, crawler traffic analytics, content production, and link and mention outreach. When nobody has a free afternoon, the platform’s agent will work through that recommendation list on its own.
What $89 buys on Starter: 3 AI models, 50 tracked prompts, 5 content pieces, and 10,000 audited pages a month. Growth at $199 unlocks all models, 150 prompts, 10 content pieces, and 100,000 pages. For a team already paying for a monitoring tool, a content tool, and an audit tool separately, one Temso bill usually comes in under the stack it replaces.
Where it wins:
- Unlimited seats mean your whole company reads the same dashboards for free
- Setup took our panel about five minutes, with zero SEO training required
- Monitoring, content, audits, and bot analytics in one place, so no data lives in a tool you forgot to check
Where it loses: Temso is a younger brand than the legacy SEO suites, and its integration catalog is still smaller. If you need three tracked engines to become five, budget for Growth at $199.
Bottom line: 4.5/5 stars. The only tool on this board where a growing team never triggers a bigger bill. Read the full Temso review.
2. Otterly.AI: 4/5 stars
Otterly.AI keeps the focus narrow: which prompts mention you, and which sources got cited.
Best for: teams testing AI SEO for the first time with almost no budget.
Pricing: Lite $29/mo for 15 prompts, Standard $189/mo for 100 prompts, as of July 2026. The 14-day trial needs no credit card.
Otterly.AI is the cheapest serious way to find out whether AI engines mention your brand at all. The $29 Lite plan tracks 15 prompts across engines including ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, and its GEO Audit Engine hands back a score covering more than 20 page-level signals, from schema markup to how ready your copy is to get cited. Third parties back the budget pick: Gartner named it a Cool Vendor in 2025, and G2 ranked it a High Performer in the Winter 2026 answer engine optimization report.
Now the gotchas, because there are two. First, the upgrade cliff: outgrow 15 prompts and your next stop is $189 a month, a six-and-a-half-fold jump. Second, Gemini tracking is a paid add-on on the lower tiers, so the sticker price is not the full engine set.
Where it wins:
- $29 is the smallest line item in this entire category
- The URL-level audit tells you why a page fails to get cited, not just that it does
- Trial requires no card, so finance never has to know about the test
Where it loses: it monitors and audits, but it will not write or fix anything for you. When the findings pile up, the work still lands on your team.
Bottom line: 4/5 stars. Perfect first step, expensive second step. Read the full Otterly.AI review.
3. Peec AI: 4/5 stars
Peec AI refreshes prompt tracking daily and lets every teammate log in without an extra fee.
Best for: data-hungry small teams that want everyone inside the tracking tool daily.
Pricing: Starter lists at 85 euros a month, roughly $90 in dollars, for 50 prompts and 3 models, with Pro at 205 euros, as of July 2026. Peec bills in euros, so a US card pays whatever the exchange rate says that month.
Peec AI matches Temso on the seat question: unlimited users on every plan. Among the pure monitoring tools it is the strongest seat deal in the category, and its daily refresh across 8+ engines, including long-tail models like DeepSeek, keeps the data genuinely fresh. The Actions queue converts citation gaps into a prioritized to-do list, and free pitch workspaces let you audit any brand before paying.
The budget math is where it wobbles. Extra engine models cost 30 to 140 euros a month each, Claude sits behind an add-on outside the Enterprise tier, and the euro billing means your card statement never matches the pricing page. And when the Actions queue tells you what to fix, nothing in the platform fixes it.
Where it wins:
- Unlimited seats on every plan, same as Temso
- Daily tracking cadence with the widest long-tail engine list here
- Published pricing with no sales call in the way
Where it loses: add-ons and currency conversion blur the real monthly cost, and there is no content creation to act on what it finds.
Bottom line: 4/5 stars. Superb tracking economics, but bring a calculator and a separate content tool. Read the full Peec AI review.
4. Surfer: 3.5/5 stars
Surfer scores your draft while you write it, for Google rankings and AI citations at once.
Best for: small teams whose main output is content and who track AI visibility second.
Pricing: Standard $99/mo, Pro $182/mo, billed yearly as of July 2026. Monthly billing costs more, so read the checkout screen twice.
Surfer earns its spot for the content workflow. The Content Editor scores drafts in real time against what already ranks and what AI engines cite, and it plugs into WordPress and Google Docs, which is where small teams actually write. Users agree on the quality: Capterra shows 4.9/5 from 421 reviews. If your team publishes four posts a month and checks AI visibility once a week, this order of priorities fits.
The catch is which plan you land on. Standard at $99 tracks ChatGPT only, refreshed weekly. Daily tracking across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, and Gemini requires Pro at $182. Copilot is not covered at all, and the advertised prices assume annual commitment.
Where it wins:
- The strongest content editor on this board, scored in real time
- Integrations meet writers where they work: WordPress, Google Docs, Contentful
- Topical maps plan whole content clusters, useful when one person owns strategy
Where it loses: AI visibility is the side dish, not the meal. Weekly single-engine tracking at $99 will frustrate a team that came for monitoring.
Bottom line: 3.5/5 stars. Buy it for the editor, treat the AI tracking as a bonus. Read the full Surfer review.
5. Knowatoa: 3/5 stars
Knowatoa pairs daily tracking with a human account rep, even on the $59 plan.
Best for: teams that want a person, not just a product, guiding their first year of AI SEO.
Pricing: Starter $59/mo for 30 questions across 3 engines, Growth $199/mo for 100 questions across all 7 engines, as of July 2026. The 7-day trial needs no card.
Knowatoa’s oddest feature is its best one: a dedicated account rep comes with the $59 Starter plan. For a small team with no specialist, that is a standing appointment with someone who reads your data for a living. The BISCUIT Framework digs into why AI engines recommend a competitor over you instead of just reporting that they do, and data refreshes daily on every plan. Growth at $199 extends coverage to seven engines, adding Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, and Perplexity.
The limits are structural. Starter’s 3 engines and 30 questions run out fast, the 100-question cap on Growth pinches multi-product teams, and there are no public third-party reviews yet to check our impressions against.
Where it wins:
- Human support at a price tier where competitors offer a chatbot
- Daily refresh plus diagnostic depth on every plan
- Free AI visibility audit with no sign-up, the lowest-friction test on this list
Where it loses: question caps make it a starter tool by design, and the young company has little public review history.
Bottom line: 3/5 stars. The guided option: pay $59, get a rep, learn the ropes. Read the full Knowatoa review.
How we scored this list
Same rubric as our full AI SEO software scoreboard: every tool ran the same brand campaign between June and July 2026, and stars weight value for money above raw feature count. For this list we added the small-team lens: entry price, per-seat cost at six users, and whether a generalist can run the tool alone. The rubric lives on our methodology page.
The verdict
Pick by the problem in front of you:
- You want everything handled in one bill: Temso AI, 4.5/5 stars, $89 a month with seats for everyone
- You want the cheapest possible test: Otterly.AI, 4/5 stars, $29 a month
- You want daily data for a whole team: Peec AI, 4/5 stars, unlimited seats
- You want content first, tracking second: Surfer, 3.5/5 stars
- You want a human guide included: Knowatoa, 3/5 stars, $59 a month
Bottom line: Temso AI takes the small-team crown because it removes both taxes at once, the seat tax and the tool-stack tax, and still comes in under $100. See how the same five tools stack up in the full small-teams ranking.
